About Furniture Assist
“From those who have, to those who need.”
Our Story
Furniture Assist began on April 15, 2004, as an outreach initiative of St. Luke and All Saints Episcopal Church in Union, New Jersey. What started as a local effort to help families in need quickly grew into something much larger. On January 4, 2006, Furniture Assist was officially incorporated as a New Jersey Non-Profit Corporation.
We are a registered 501(c)(3) organization, able to provide tax receipts for donations upon request. Since our founding, we have grown rapidly and now partner with over 125 government and social service organizations throughout the North Jersey area.
How Our Donation Process Works
Our concept is simple and efficient, designed to connect generous donors with families who need help the most.
Donations Received
We accept gently used furniture and household items from individuals and businesses. Donors deliver items to our facility or arrange their own transportation.
Clients Referred
Partner social service agencies refer families in need and verify that they qualify for assistance through our program.
Appointments Scheduled
Referred clients receive an appointment time to visit our warehouse and select the items they need for their homes.
Items Distributed
Clients come to our facility, choose essential furniture and household items, and transport them home. Most donations are distributed within just a few days of arrival.
Our Impact
Since our founding, we have received donations from thousands of generous families and businesses throughout New Jersey. These contributions have enabled us to help thousands of clients create dignified, functional homes.
We receive far more donation offers than we have space for, and our capacity is limited only by financial resources and volunteer availability. The need in our community is significant — we currently receive 60 to 90 referral requests each week but can only serve 25-30 families with our existing resources.
With additional resources, we could do so much more. Every donation, volunteer hour, and dollar contributed helps us serve more families with dignity and respect. If you’d like to help us expand our reach, please consider donating or volunteering.
